ABOUT ANA

Ana Thompson is a British–Colombian, award-winning multidisciplinary designer, born in Colombia and based in London.
Originally trained as an industrial designer in Bogotá, Ana developed a rigorous approach to form, materiality, and process. Her early career spanned furniture, product design, and research-led R&D projects exploring emerging technologies and materials across studios in Bogotá and London. This foundation, combined with a deep connection to the goldsmithing traditions of her Colombian heritage, led her to jewellery design.
Drawn to jewellery’s emotive qualities, energetic power, cultural significance, and enduring symbolism, Ana completed an MA in Jewellery Design at the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London Metropolitan University, graduating with distinction in 2012. During her studies, she explored innovative ways of applying industrial design thinking and advanced technologies to jewellery, developing a research-led practice that blended design, science, and technology into timeless pieces.
Following her graduation, Ana collaborated with microbiologist Dr Sean Speese, translating real microscopic scientific data into sculptural garments and statement jewellery. This body of work was exhibited at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Media Lab.
Ana’s distinctive design language is shaped by memories and observations of Colombia’s rich landscapes, alongside an ongoing fascination with macro- and micro-structures of the unseen natural world.
Her belief in jewellery as a vessel for cultural memory, meaning, and personal narrative through the ages became the catalyst for establishing Ana Thompson Fine Jewellery.
Her work has been showcased at leading international fairs and has received four prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards.
